Playback Nigeria Education program provides skills development and training services to the general social sector and individuals including community based volunteers, social workers, working class adults, theatre lovers, children and international organizations. Our art-based approach and capacity development workshops are beneficial to NGOs and social workers working in different emergency communities. We also provide certified theatre for social change training programmes from Introduction to Advanced Courses often organized in partnership with our international faculty and partners virtually and physically.

At Playback Nigeria Education, we are continually seeing the benefits improv classes can have on everyone. You may not know it, but our fun, fast-paced, developmental curriculum consists of more than 300 unique lesson plans – which feature various activities that aid you in very specific ways.

You’ll be happy to know that there are many benefits of improv for everyone, and not just in the creative realm, but in the corporate and academic world too! We’ve long acknowledged the impact improv can present. Think of its helping boost the four C’s Creativity, Critical Thinking. Collaboration and Communication.

We teach Playback Theatre and Improvisational Theatre techniques in a supportive atmosphere. Start with our amazing Improv 101 Class or join us for other advance classes including professional trainings in Playback Theatre. These classes are open for all groups including children and working class adults who want to try something new.

No previous acting experience required

Upcoming Classes

Dip your toe into the joyous pool of improv. Starts from the basics and you will have no fear but all fun 100% fun.
This is the perfect place for absolute beginners to get acquainted with the art of short form improvisation. Every week you will play in a safe and positive class environment with group exercises and scene work.

Improv 101

This is an introductory class to the world of Improvisation. A 100% practical class where you get to learn the Basics of Improv, – it’s concise, organized, full of learning and fun. You’ll learn skills useful for any kind of improv performance, and those skills might just make your life off the stage richer, too.

Even if you are not interested in acting but want to improve your social skills including building your confidence, this is the class for you. We take care of people.

Each class covers a distinct topic, and we’ll run classes both Mondays and Wednesdays, which means you can attend the other class if you have to miss. You can even attend classes you’ve missed in a future session of Improv 101.

7 weeks, once a week, two hours a night in the city of Abuja starting from January 2024.

Playback Theatre Introductory Course

In this weekend intensive training workshop, participants will learn the basics of Playback Theatre with introduction to some key aspects of Playback Theatre: deep listening, story sharing, and the embodiment of feelings to honor experiences that are shared. Playback Theatre can be applied for many purposes including a way of healing and creating a dialogue within communities and as social & humanitarian workers.
This training is open to all including social and humanitarian workers in all sectors. No theatre experience is required. Each participant will have a chance to try the roles of being an actor, audience and maybe a teller. We will tell and enact stories together, in the spirit of fun.

Improv 4 Families

This is a class for kids and their adults!

Improv for Families is the perfect opportunity for parents to learn Improv games with their kids. The class is open to parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, godparents, family friends, cousins and siblings age 6 to 18.

All levels of experience welcome.

Class runs for six Saturdays from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.

There is a show for friends and family at the end of the classes. 

Improv 4 Kids

This class is an enrichment opportunity highly recommended for any child to build confidence, develop communication skills or just wanting to learn all the secrets and magic of improvisational theatre. At the end of the session, student would have had the opportunity to have real practical acting experience.

International Children’s Theatre Camp (Turkiye & USA)

The International Children’s Theatre camp is an opportunity for you and your children to have an unforgettable experience in Turkey (April) and USA (July) with the Playback team. Participants will explore their creative abilities, visit tourist sites, experience a new culture and make new friends.

Improv in Education

This in-school (classroom) improv program provides an opportunity for students of all ages to:

• Enhance self-confidence self-esteem, and self-discipline.
• Improve their oral communication and performance skills
• Develop social skills and the ability to work in group
• Encourage perseverance and commitment to a task.
• Foster an appreciation of the talents of other and HAVE FUN!

Improv Theatre Clubs

The Youth Theatre Clubs runs in schools every week during academic term. We offer participatory learning that helps make the student-actors become professional theatre practitioners. Members are able to put up a professional theatre production of their choice at the annual Children’s Theatre Festival organized by Playback Nigeria.
Our improvisational technique helps ignite the leadership skills in your children, including imagination, spontaneity, relationship building, listening and communication skills while achieving an understanding and full appreciation of the theatre.

What to wear:
In order for you to feel comfortable in the activity, it is required that you wear appropriate clothes to move about in the space and a low flat footwear for dance.
